Blacktooth’s been many things in his life, but he’s never been a sucker. Even when his back’s against the wall, he’s always working an angle, looking out for goblin number one. At least, that’s what he tells everyone. The truth is, he’s trustworthy, no matter how many times he tells you not to trust him. He’s loyal, as much as he talks about looking out for his own neck. And, he’s worried that Cinder, his best friend and partner, is going to throw away a prosperous life of honest thievery for a pipe dream.

Hey everyone! The Gutter Magic promo video (http://www.youtube.com/LMe3fuenyJQ) shot past the 1000 view mark last night! I’m completely floored at the response we’ve gotten, and by all the positive comments and support that people have given to this project. To celebrate, I wanted to share some of Brett Barkley’s concept art for the main character, Cinder Byrnes:

Cinder wants to be a wizard. Real bad. His cousin’s a wizard. His aunt’s one. His grandfather was one of the most famous wizards the world has ever known. Cinder, he just wasn’t born with the talent. Not that he’s going to let that stop him. He’s been borrowing, hustling, and outright stealing every bit of magic lore he can get his hands on to fix his problem – and he may have finally found the answer. Now, all he needs to do is survive long enough to use it.

I’ll be sharing more concepts and sketches of the rest of the cast over the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

Well, the video’s been out for a little under a week, and it’s already been viewed close to 1000 times! We’ve got a lot of new fans on facebook, new followers on twitter, and just in general a whole lot of people interested in Gutter Magic!

I just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to view the video, and doubly thank everyone who liked, shared, tweeted, and wrote about it in the past few days. You’ve all been an amazing help in getting the word out.

In the weeks to come, we’ll be featuring character sketches, sample pages, cover previews, and more… keep your eyes here, or on the facebook page for updates.

Here’s a link to the video again – please share it with as many people as you can!

And once again, thank you to everyone for your continued support! I can’t tell you how much it means to all of us on the creative team.

Hi everyone,

Earlier today, I posted a new promotional video on youtube, showcasing the amazing art that Brett and Donna have been churning out for Issue 1. I reached out to a few sites, and lo and behold, we’re up on BleedingCool! Really excited to bethere and I wanted to say thanks to Rich Johnston for posting it up. Hope you enjoy the video, and check back here for more info as we get closer to release!

More updates soon!

If you’ve got a buck left over from your trip to the LCS, the Gutter Magic one-shot is now available on Graphicly!

Check out this sneak peek panel from Gutter Magic #1, illustrated by the immensely talented Brett Barkley! A finalist in Frank Cho’s 50 Girls 50 contest, Brett has signed on as the artist for the entire miniseries! We’ll be debuting more preview panels and concept art soon, as well as full pages as they near completion… stay tuned!

OK, so I’m a little late with that. But, it being the time of resolutions and such, I’m going to try and update the blog more often, starting now. Gutter Magic is moving along, and I will have some news on progress soon, but in the meantime, I’ll be posting about whatever comes to mind, comics related. Sometimes it will be about what I’m reading, sometimes about what I’m writing. Hope you all enjoy it.

Gutter Magic Comic Reading List

I gave a copy of my comic to my best friend, Tom Clancy. His oldest son, Jack, got a hold of it and loved it (he’s 5), and apparently let his teachers know. Sandwiched in between reading sessions of The Hobbit (and Danny the Dinosaur), I feel like I’m in pretty good company : )

Thanks Jack! You’re my second-youngest fan! (Sammy’s a fan of pretty much everything I do, except changing his diaper and trying to get him to go to bed)

John had some very nice things to say, and some solid critiques about what could have gone better. Check out the review here:

John Lees reviews Gutter Magic/

If the goal of this collection of tales was to generate interest in an upcoming Gutter Magic series, then I would say this comic was most definitely a success.

John Lees is a great writer himself, you can check out his book, The Standard, right here., and pick it up at graphic.ly here. He’s also a hell of a nice guy, and meeting him was one of my highlights at NYCC.

UPDATE: John’s review is now up on Comixtribe as well!
